About us and how we can help

The What Works Centre for Wellbeing is an independent collaborating centre that develops and shares robust and accessible wellbeing evidence to improve decision making that is used by:

  • Governments – national, local, and the wider public sector

  • Businesses – large, small and multinational, professional bodies

  • Civil society – charities, social enterprises and community groups

Part of the What Works Network of organisations which seek to improve the way organisations create, share and use high quality evidence for decision-making, the wellbeing team works closely with partners to answer key questions on what works to improve wellbeing and identify the gaps in the research to be filled.

The WWCW can help with:

  • Defining wellbeing within the goals of the TIP, a focus on improving people’s lives, improving wellbeing

  • Use of wellbeing data to understand current levels of wellbeing in the town and related inequalities

  • Use the wellbeing evidence to better achieve outcomes, since wellbeing in turn improves productivity

  • Understanding opportunities to maximise wellbeing within the TIP

  • Design options which improve wellbeing, based on the evidence

  • Understand and compare the wellbeing impacts in appraisal. Support the estimates in social cost benefit analysis by:

  • Considering the full potential impacts

  • Quantifying wellbeing impacts and monetising where possible
