About us and how we can help

The Good Economy, Impact Investing Institute and Pensions for Purpose are running collaborative project focused on Place-based Impact Investing (PBII) in the UK.

PBII describes investments that create positive economic, social, and environmental outcomes and multipliers in defined geographic areas, and are aligned with and support local well-being and inclusive growth strategies; e.g. housing, commercial real estate, utilities, clean energy, agriculture, forestry, and small and medium-sized businesses (including social enterprises).

PBII are supported by Central Government (DCMS) and the City Corporation, and will bring together participants including local government pension fund managers, corporate pension funds, local government, central government, investment managers, investment advisors/consultants, relevant trade bodies and local organisations.

They are highlighting opportunities and developing mechanisms to increase flows of institutional investment, particularly local government pension scheme investment, into place-based impact investment, which delivers both financial returns and positive impacts for communities, towns and regions afflicted by long-term under-investment.

The institute can:

  • Introduce towns to impact investing, its benefits, and its actors – with an emphasis on the opportunity presented by institutional place-based impact investment (including local government pension schemes).

  • Help towns to measure, manage and report on the impact of place-based impact investing – by inviting them to participate in our work to develop a standardised approach to place-based impact investment measurement and reporting.
